Falla Pintor Domingo – Guillem de Castro is one of the commissions with the longest history in the city of Valencia, located in the El Pilar – Sant Francesc sector.
According to the archives of Junta Central Fallera, our official foundation dates back to 1885, although there are documented references that place our origins in 1881, when a falla was planted in Santa Teresa Street under the name Pintor Domingo – Santa Teresa, between La Parra and Santa Teresa streets. This allows us to proudly state that we have more than 140 years of fallera history.
Throughout our history we have adopted different names, such as Pintor Domingo – Encarnación, Pintor Domingo – Santa Teresa or Pintor Domingo – Borrull, until definitively establishing the current one. We have also played an active role in strengthening the fallera movement, being a founding commission of the Sagunto-Quart Fallas Group, the Fallas Center of Valencia, and El Pilar-Sant Francesc.
We have planted without interruption in different areas of our district since 1958, and among the most notable historical milestones, it should be mentioned that in 1951 we obtained a Ninot Indultat with “Paquito, apprentice painter“, a work by José Barea, inspired by his son José Barea Rocafull.
In 1968, Ángel Daud Bayarri and Mª del Pilar Gil Fornés were appointed Honorary Presidents for life of our commission, a distinction that reflects their commitment, dedication, and deep affection for the Falla Pintor Domingo – Guillem de Castro.
The children’s commission was inaugurated in 1969, and since then it has built a solid track record. In 2009, we received the extraordinary award for llibrets for a new author from Lo Rat Penat, thanks to the poet Vicente López Torres.
Did you know that our falla once had a Married Ladies Commission? It was founded by Mª del Pilar Gil Fornés, Fallera Mayor of that commission in 1978, and remained active from 1978 until 1985. How much history has changed since then.
As for honorary recognitions, Junta Central Fallera awarded us the Bunyol Col·lectiu amb Fulles de Llorer i Brillants for the main falla in 1993, and in 2009 the Distintiu Col·lectiu for the children’s falla.
Our commission experienced a period of great activity and splendor in the 1980s, reaching more than 150 members. In 1988 we won the 1st prize in Section 3C with the falla “Valencia, la mar ¿de qué?“, and we were recognized on numerous occasions by Junta Central Fallera with awards for fallera activity and theater in Valencian.
In recent times, we continue to demonstrate our vitality. In 2019, we achieved the 1st prize in Section 8C with the falla “Va de ciris“, and in 2024 and 2025 we were recognized with first prizes for Wit and Charm.
The year 2025 will remain marked in the history of the falla as one of the most special and successful years we have experienced, a stage of revival as a commission after some more difficult times. The main falla obtained the 4th prize in its section and the 1st prize for Wit and Charm in Section 8B, while our ninot “Arròs amb Coses” won the 1st prize in its section, the 1st prize for Wit and Charm at the Ninot Exhibition, and was nominated for the prestigious Raga Awards.
